Teej literally means three, that is the third day. Teej is a series of Hindu festivals celebrated primarily by women in parts of India and Nepal. The festival revolves around the worship of the goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. It is also a celebration of womanhood, marital bliss, and the well-being of the family. Unmarried girls also fast on this day so that they get their desired groom.

There are three main types of Teej festival.

Hariyali Teej: Celebrated in the month of Shravana (July-August), this festival marks the arrival of the monsoon season.

Kajari Teej: Celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September), this form of Teej is more prominent in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. Women observe fasts without water and pray for the well-being of their husbands and family.

Hartalika Teej: Celebrated a day before Ganesh Chaturthi, it is one of the most important Teej festivals, particularly in Nepal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh. Women observe strict fasting, often without water, and worship goddess Parvati, seeking marital bliss and a long life for their husbands.

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Hartalika Teej is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada. On this day, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are mainly worshipped. During Teej, women dress in their finest clothes, typically in red, and maroon and adorn themselves with jewelry. Women do Solah Shringar on this day. They gather to perform Puja, sing traditional songs, and Bhajan and Kirtan through the night. In some regions, swings are set up in trees, and women enjoy swinging as part of the celebration.

Tithi

Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya Tithi is starting on 05 September 2024 at 12:21 pm. At the same time, this date is going to end on 06 September 2024 at 03:01 pm. According to Udaya Tithi, Hartalika Teej fast will be observed on Friday, 06 September.

Shubh Mahurat for Puja 6:02 am to 8:31 am.

In many places, Puja is performed after sunset which is called Pradosh Kaal. On this day, the Sun sets at 6:36 PM.

Brahma Muhurta of Hartalika Teej 4:30 am to 5:15 am.

Abhijit Muhurta 11:54 am to 12:44 pm.

Rahu Kaal  10:45 am to 12:19 pm.

PUJA Samagri

Idols, Photos or Statue made of the sandy soil of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Ghee, Diya, Bati, Camphor and Dhoopbatti.

Paan, seasonal fruits.

Kalash, Mango leaves, Banana leaves, Dhatura, flowers, Bel Patra and a chowki, Shami leaves

Suhaag ki pitari.

Betel nut, Whole Coconut, sandalwood.

Solah Shringar like kajal, kumkum, mehndi, bindi, sindoor, bangles and red Chunari etc.
