Popular actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mimi Chakraborty has tendered her resignation from the role of Member of Parliament (MP) citing dissatisfaction with the local party leadership in her constituency. Chakraborty, who secured victory in the Jadavpur seat during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, submitted her resignation to the Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee. However, it’s important to note that this resignation has not yet been formalized as she hasn’t sent the resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Expressing her sentiments, Mimi Chakraborty stated, “Politics is not for me. You have to promote someone here (in politics) if you are helping someone. Besides being a politician, I also work as an actor. I have equal responsibilities. If you join politics, you are criticized whether you work or not.”

She emphasized that she had communicated her concerns to Mamata Banerjee, mentioning her resignation from the party that provided her with an opportunity to progress. Chakraborty had previously discussed her resignation as an MP with Banerjee in 2022, which was rejected at the time. She now awaits further instructions from the party leader.

Chakraborty expressed her dreams for the Jadavpur constituency but highlighted facing numerous obstacles. She also addressed the challenges of being from a film background, stating, “It is very easy to malign a person when he or she comes from a film background, saying that he or she does not work.”

Despite tendering her resignation, there’s been no confirmation of acceptance from Mamata Banerjee. Furthermore, the formal resignation process, involving submission to the Lok Sabha Speaker, is still pending.
