On Sunday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed BJP (Bharitya Janta Party) for trying to influence the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and creating ‘undemocratic obstacles’.
The opposition bloc held the ‘Lokantantra Bachao’ (Save Democracy) rally at the Ramlila Maidan in a demonstration of unity and strength amidst the backdrop of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest just before the Lok Sabha elections.
At the INDIA bloc’s ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally, the Congress leader announced the opposition’s five demands before the upcoming polls:
- The Election Commission of India should ensure a level playing field in the Lok Sabha polls.
- EC should stop the forceful action of Income Tax, CBI, and ED against opposition done with the intention of manipulating the elections.
- Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal be released with immediate effect.
- Attempts to strangle the opposition parties financially should be stopped.
- A Supreme Court-monitored SIT should be formed to probe the BJP’s extortion of funds through electoral bonds, and money laundering charges leveled by the BJP against parties and open leaders out of revenge.
Priyanka reminded BJP of Lord Ram’s struggle in his fight for truth. She also claimed that the saffron party is ‘trapped in an illusion’.
She said, “When Lord Ram was fighting for the truth, he did not have power or resources, he did not even have a chariot. Ravan has a chariot, resources, an army, and gold. Lord Ram had truth, hope, faith, modesty, patience, and courage.”
She further added, “I want to tell those in power and PM Narendra Modi that the message of Lord Ram’s life is that power is not permanent and arrogance gets shattered.”
Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress President also attacked BJP at the rally for using investigative agencies for ‘intimidating politicians and political parties.’
The Congress Chief said, “BJP formed governments by intimidating leaders and buying MLAs and MPs. We have to fight to save democracy and the Constitution.”
INDIA bloc leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, J&K NC leader Farooq Abdullah, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, Jharkhand CM Champai Soren attended the rally.
