Karnataka BJP chief, Vijayendra Yediyurappa, criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent decision to lift the hijab ban in educational institutions, arguing that it fosters division along religious lines.

Shortly after Siddaramaiah’s announcement that there would be no restrictions on hijab in educational institutions in Karnataka, Yediyurappa expressed his disapproval, stating that the decision raises concerns about the secular nature of educational spaces.

On social media, Yediyurappa remarked, “By allowing religious attire in educational institutions, Siddaramaiah’s government is promoting the division of young minds along religious lines, potentially hindering an inclusive learning environment. It’s crucial to prioritize education over divisive practices and foster an environment where students can focus on academics without the influence of religious practices.”

Yediyurappa also emphasized that no one from the minority community had demanded hijabs in educational institutions. Addressing Siddaramaiah, he said, “You are the Chief Minister for the entire state, not just one community. The Karnataka High Court and the Supreme Court have expressed concern over the issue. The state of Siddharamiah is unfortunate.”

Expressing strong condemnation of the decision, Yediyurappa added, “Hijab should not be allowed in schools and colleges. While farmers in the state are in great distress, the Chief Minister should prioritize addressing their concerns rather than focusing on the hijab issue.”

Yediyurappa further commented that after the recently concluded assembly elections in five states, the Congress and the INDIA bloc have realized they are not likely to win the Lok Sabha elections.

In response to Siddaramaiah’s statements during the inauguration of three police stations in Nanjangud, Yediyurappa criticized the BJP, saying, “They say ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ but sideline those wearing caps, burqas, and sporting a beard. Is this what they mean?”

Siddaramaiah, in defense of the decision, stated that the choice of dress and food is personal and that no one should interfere in it. Addressing concerns about vote bank politics, he added, “No restrictions on wearing hijab. Your choices are yours, and my choices are mine; it’s that simple.”
