Toyota to Invest Rs 20,000 Crore in New Maharashtra Manufacturing Plant

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is set to invest approximately Rs 20,000 crore in a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. This investment, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, aims to establish a greenfield facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, fostering economic development and employment opportunities in the region.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced a substantial investment of around Rs 20,000 crore to set up a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to explore the establishment of a greenfield manufacturing facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

Boost to Local Economy

This new plant is expected to significantly contribute to job creation and economic growth in the region. TKM’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Masakazu Yoshimura, emphasized the importance of this investment in driving the company’s growth and providing qualitative mobility solutions both locally and globally.

Current Operations and Future Plans

Headquartered in Karnataka, TKM already operates two manufacturing units in Bidadi near Bengaluru. Over the years, TKM and its group companies have invested more than Rs 16,000 crore in Karnataka, creating close to 86,000 jobs across the entire value chain. The company’s cumulative export contributions stand at around Rs 32,000 crore, highlighting its focus on the global market.

Government Support and Industry Impact

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared the news on social media, highlighting the transformative impact of the investment. “Transforming Maharashtra, Developing Marathwada! Reaffirming its commitment to India, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is set to launch a Green Field Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra,” he posted.

Future Production Capacity

Currently, TKM has an installed production capacity of 3.42 lakh vehicles at its two Bidadi-based units. The proposed investment in Maharashtra, once finalized, will be made over a multi-year period, potentially contributing to substantial job creation and further economic growth in the region.
