Jai Mata Di! Navratri day 6 will be celebrated on 14 April 2024. On this day, Maa Katyayani is worshipped as the sixth incarnation of Maa Durga. But wait! Did you know Maa Katyayani is also known by the name of Maa Mahishasur Mardini?

If not, then today I shall tell you the story of Maa katyayani, who took birth at Mahirishi Katyayan’s house to kill the demon Mahishasur and free the world from his tyranny!

Here is Maa Katyayani Katha:

Maa Katyayani is more commonly known as Maa Mahishasura Mardini. Riding a lion, she holds Abhaya and Varada mudras in her right hand and lotus and sword in her left hand.

Maa Katyayani is the ultimate protector from the evil forces, no matter how powerful they might be. So, if you suffer from anxiety or any fear, worship Maa Katyayani to bless you with inner strength and fearlessness.

As per Vamana Purana, there was a time when the Gods were harassed by Mahishasur’s tyranny and they wanted to get rid of him. Then, they collected their energies which was materialised and moulded by Rishi Katyayan in the form of Goddess Katyayani.

That is also why she is known as Katyayani because she was brought to life by Rishi Katyayan.
