The actor who once stayed silent for his sons finally spoke — and it cost him everything
Most people in Tamil Nadu still call him Jayam Ravi. That name made him a star. His debut film, Jayam (2003) was a blockbuster, and what followed was over two decades of commercially successful films — Thani Oruvan, Tik Tik Tik, Romeo Juliet, and more.
But in January 2025, he made a quiet but significant decision. He dropped the screen name and returned to his real name — Ravi Mohan. He also launched his own production house, Ravi Mohan Studios. At the time, it felt like a fresh chapter. Looking back now, it was the beginning of a very public unravelling.
The Marriage That Ended in Silence
Ravi Mohan and Aarti Ravi had what looked like a picture-perfect life. They met in Scotland in 2005. He pursued her relentlessly. They married on June 4, 2009. They had two sons — Aarav and Ayaan. For 15 years, they appeared on social media together, went on foreign vacations, and were widely considered one of Kollywood’s most stable couples.
Then, on September 9, 2024, Ravi dropped a statement on Instagram. He said he had decided to “proceed with the dissolution” of the marriage. He called it a difficult decision. He asked for privacy. He gave no reasons.
Aarti’s response was striking. She said that she and her sons were completely blindsided. She had no prior knowledge of the announcement. It came as a public shock to her just as it did to everyone else.
That gap — between his announcement and her shock — told a story all on its own.
Enter Keneeshaa Francis
Almost immediately after the divorce announcement, speculation began. Rumours linked Ravi Mohan to Keneeshaa Francis — a singer and spiritual therapist known for her performances in Goa.
Both denied it. Keneeshaa even clarified in an interview that Ravi was simply one of her clients. She said he first reached out to her in June 2024, when he was, in her words, “mentally and emotionally bruised and battered.” He had already sent a mutual consent divorce notice through his lawyer at that point. He sought her help privately, not wanting anyone in Chennai to know.
However, over time, the denials gave way to public appearances. They attended producer Ishari Ganesh’s daughter’s wedding together, arriving in matching golden outfits. They were photographed sitting side by side. Ravi posted a birthday wish for her on Instagram. Eventually, he acknowledged the relationship — calling her a “beautiful companion.”
Aarti Ravi called Keneeshaa the “third person” responsible for the breakdown of their marriage. The internet agreed loudly. Keneeshaa became a target.
A Year of Trolling
What followed was relentless. Keneeshaa faced months of cyberbullying. Users attacked her on every platform. The abuse was personal, constant, and vicious. She tried to ignore it. She limited comments on her posts. She posted about hope and new beginnings. Still, it continued.
On May 15, 2026, she finally broke.
She published a long statement on Instagram. In it, she said she had “walked into this story with love” and was now “walking out of it in silence.” She wrote that she had given pieces of herself trying to protect a man the world had already decided a story for. She said she was done explaining, done defending, done fighting battles that were never hers to fight.
She also said she was “releasing him with peace, with love, and with complete detachment.”
Then she announced she was leaving Chennai, quitting music, stepping away from therapy, and logging off all social media. She signed off with the words: “Online bullying, manipulation, and sorcery is what I leave because of. And with that, I am logging off Instagram and all social profiles as well until God wins.”
It was a goodbye letter. Not to Ravi alone — but to an entire city and its noise.
The Press Conference That Shook Chennai
The very next day — May 16, 2026 — Ravi Mohan held a press conference in Chennai. He arrived with his brother-in-law, Prasad. And for the first time, he spoke.
He broke down multiple times.
“I Will Not Act Until My Divorce Comes Through”
He made this announcement clearly and firmly. His films would not be released. He would not work in the industry. Not until his personal life was resolved. He said he could no longer focus on being creative, given everything happening around him.
“I Slit My Wrists and Still Showed Up at the Shoot”
This was the moment that stopped the room. Ravi Mohan revealed that at one point during his marriage, the pain became unbearable. He slit his wrists. And the very next day, he went to the shoot anyway. He used it to speak about his commitment to his work — but what it also revealed was the depth of suffering he had quietly carried for years.
He said, “I entered marriage against the will of my parents. I am paying the price now for doing that.”
“They Are Not Letting Me Meet My Sons”
He spoke about his children with visible grief. He said his sons were now being accompanied by bodyguards. He claimed he was being deliberately cut off from them. He also alleged that when his sons were in a car accident, he was not even allowed to check on them.
Financial Control and Emotional Abuse
He revealed that during his marriage, Aarti controlled his finances through a joint bank account. Every withdrawal triggered a call. He had no independent account of his own — even while he was the one earning. He called it the silence he was forced to suffer.
He said he had been “kept like a slave.”
On Keneeshaa
He confirmed the split. He said he lost her because of the cyberbullying directed at her. He did not blame her for leaving. He said, simply, “I wish her a good life.”
He also warned the bullies directly: “I have proof. I will expose every one of them.”
Aarti Ravi Responds
Aarti did not attend the press conference. But she did not stay silent either. On the morning of May 16, she posted on Instagram. She did not name anyone. But the words were pointed.
She wrote: “You never wake a sleeping lion. God help if she’s a mamma lion. My dignified silence should never be mistaken for weakness or taken undue advantage of. If needed, to protect my children and my dignity, I will step out of my comfort zone and face the world with the truth. Because truth always prevails.”
Many read it as a direct response to Keneeshaa’s note. Others saw it as a signal that Aarti was preparing to say more — publicly and with evidence.
What This Story Is Really About
On the surface, this looks like a celebrity divorce with too many moving parts. But dig deeper, and it is something else entirely.
It is the story of a man who spent years projecting a carefully managed image — the good husband, the devoted father, the disciplined actor — while privately falling apart. It is the story of a woman, Keneeshaa, who stepped into someone’s crisis and became the villain of a story she never wrote. It is the story of an estranged wife holding her silence with one hand and a cryptic Instagram post with the other.
And it is the story of two children — Aarav and Ayaan — caught in the middle of all of it.
The divorce proceedings are ongoing in Chennai’s Family Welfare Court. The trolling continues. The legal battles continue. And Ravi Mohan, for now, is stepping away from the one thing that always kept him going — his films.
Whether he returns, and when, will depend on something far outside a film set. It will depend on whether the courts and the people around him give him a chance to breathe.
