A cab fell in a 300-metre-deep gorge, taking down 10 people with it on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday.
The accident occurred near Battery Chashma in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban area at around 1:15 AM.
UT Disaster Response Force team, a team of police officials, and the civil Quick Response team reached Ramban and started the rescue operation as soon as possible.
The bodies of 10 passengers, during heavy rains, have been recovered.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences by posting on her X account. She wrote, “The news of many people getting killed after a vehicle fell into a ditch in Ramban area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is very sad. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families.”
Jitendra Singh, Union Minister spoke to Baseer-ul-Haq, DC Ramban regarding the accident. “Police, SDRF, and civil QRT have reached the spot. Rescue operation is going on. I’m in constant touch. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families,” the minister said.
Two identifying documents have been found on two bodies. One of them is identified as Balwan Singh, the 47-year-old driver, and Vipin Mukhiya, a Bihar resident.
The Ramban Police stated that the rescue operation is currently underway.
