Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has come under scrutiny for displaying his extreme anti-Hindu sentiment. During the ongoing election campaign in Magura-1, he is accused of coercing people to consume beef at a political event named ‘Dawat.’
The incident occurred at Shakib Al Hasan’s residence in Magura city. The Hindu guests protested on learning about the meat in their food. Allegedly, they were threatened when they protested, and some even left the gathering after the beef was served.
Shakib is contesting in the upcoming national parliamentary elections from Magura-1 on the Awami League ticket. Recently, he organized a special feast for around 400 party leaders and workers in the Magura Sadar region.
The controversy arose when, after a short while of sitting down to eat, some attendees claimed that mutton served on their plates was actually beef. Upon realizing this, many started feeling nauseous and decided to leave. Shakib Al Hasan and his father were present during the incident, attempting to manage the situation. Allegedly, Awami League workers present at the event threatened Hindu participants not to make the matter public.
Later on, some prominent Hindu leaders and supporters of Awami League in Magura clarified the incident to local Hindu nationalists. Animesh Kumar Ghosh, a known Hindu leader in Magura and a lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, stated, “Beef was intentionally served to Hindus. The aim is to make them silent about it. Many Awami League Hindu leaders and workers have informed me about this incident.”
It is important to note that Magura city is predominantly Hindu, with many ward members and Union Parishad members being Hindus. Therefore, no separate arrangement for Hindus was made during the feast Shakib organized at his home. The alleged forced consumption of beef may have implications on the upcoming elections, as it has sparked concerns among some voters.
