The initiative aims to empower drivers, ensure fair earnings, and offer commuters a transparent and indigenous mobility solution.
The launch reflects the government’s broader vision of promoting cooperatives as engines of inclusive growth, especially in sectors dominated by large private aggregators.
What Is Bharat Taxi?
Bharat Taxi is a ride-hailing platform built on a cooperative ownership model, where drivers are not just service providers but shareholders. Unlike conventional app-based cab services, the platform follows a “driver-as-owner” philosophy, ensuring that profits remain within the cooperative ecosystem.
Registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, Bharat Taxi has been designed to combine technology with cooperative values, offering a sustainable alternative in India’s fast-growing gig economy.
Key Features of Bharat Taxi
One of the most notable aspects of Bharat Taxi is its zero-commission structure. Drivers do not have to share a percentage of their earnings with the platform, allowing them to retain the full fare amount. In addition, the service follows surge-free pricing, bringing predictability and fairness for passengers.
The platform also focuses strongly on driver welfare. Members of the cooperative are eligible for insurance coverage, social security benefits, and long-term financial stability through collective ownership.
Successful Pilot and Expansion Plans
Before its formal launch, Bharat Taxi was piloted in select regions, including Delhi-NCR and parts of Gujarat. The pilot phase received encouraging participation from drivers and positive feedback from users.
Following this success, the platform is now preparing for a phased nationwide rollout. The government expects Bharat Taxi to expand across all states and Union Territories in the coming years, making it accessible to millions of commuters and creating new income opportunities for drivers.
