Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag, Jan 11, 2024 – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief, Mehbooba Mufti, narrowly escaped a car accident today at Sangam in Anantnag district. The incident occurred as her vehicle collided with a civilian car while she was on her way to Khanabal to meet the victims of a recent fire incident, according to officials.
Despite the severity of the accident, Mufti emerged unharmed, affirming her commitment to her scheduled visit. Her damaged vehicle was quickly replaced, and she proceeded with her journey in another car. A police officer in her personal security detail sustained minor injuries, but Mufti herself remained untouched by the mishap.
A spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) assured the public that Mufti was safe and had not suffered any injuries. Mufti’s daughter and media advisor, Iltija Mufti, took to social media to confirm her mother’s safety, stating, “Ms Mufti’s car met with a terrible accident enroute Anantnag today. Thanks to the grace of god, she and her security officers escaped unhurt without any serious injuries.”
Expressing relief at Mufti’s well-being, National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah called for an inquiry into the incident to determine its cause. Abdullah stressed the importance of investigating any potential security lapses that may have contributed to the accident, saying, “Glad to hear that @MehboobaMufti Sahiba escaped injury in what could have been a very serious incident. I expect the government to enquire into the circumstances of the accident. Any gaps in her security that contributed to this accident must be addressed immediately.”
The incident has sparked calls for a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of political figures during their travels. As of now, Mehbooba Mufti remains unscathed, continuing her commitments despite the unexpected turn of events.
