Mohan Charan Majhi, From Village Sarpanch To Odisha CM

Mohan Charan Majhi will be the first Bharatiya Janta Party Chief Minister of Odisha, Majhi is a firebrand tribal leader from Keonjhar Assembly Seat. His father was a watchman. Mohan Charan Majhi (52) was appointed as the 15th chief minister of Odisha. He started his political career as a village sarpanch almost three decades ago.

Coming from Raikala village in the tribal-dominated and mineral-rich Keonjhar district, Majhi (52), the son of a watchman, has been elected to the Odisha assembly four times – in 2000, 2004, 2019, and 2024.

Majhi was a sarpanch from 1997 – 2000. He worked as secretory of the BJP’s Adivasi Morcha before he was elected as MLA.

He won the Keonjhar assembly in 2000 for the first time.

Majhi also won the assembly election in 2024 defeating Biju Janta Dal’s Mina Majhi.

This is a historic victory, BJP captured power in the state, winning 78 out of the 147 assembly seats.

Sapath Grahan Samaroh of the chief minister is scheduled at Janata Maidan on Wednesday.
