Match 30 of IPL 2024 witnessed a thrilling run feast as SRH broke their own record for the highest IPL score ever, reaching a massive total of 287/3. The innings was filled with blistering performances from almost all SRH batsmen, including a scintillating century from Travis Head and a quickfire fifty from Heinrich Klaasen. On the other hand, RCB fought valiantly, with Kohli and skipper du Plessis providing them with a flying start. However, SRH struck back by taking 5 wickets in quick succession, led by captain Cummins, who dismissed du Plessis and Saurav Chauhan. Towards the end, Dinesh Karthik displayed his exceptional finishing skills by scoring a blitzkrieg 83(35), leading RCB to their second highest IPL total.
It’s worth noting that all bowlers from both sides had economy rates of 10 or above, indicating the dominance of the batsmen in the match.

While RCB made a good fightback with the bat however they made a questionable decision of dropping Siraj, who us undergoing poor form but is one of RCB’s key pacers. It was a radical decision that didn’t yield the desired result as SRH’s batsmen still smashed the entire bowling attack all around the park.
Dinesh Karthik showcased his credentials as a wicketkeeper-batsman and strengthened his case for inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad. His ability to finish innings aggressively, especially under pressure, makes him a valuable asset. The selectors should consider him alongside Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, and Ishan Kishan for the wicketkeeper-batsman spot.
RCB needs to avoid making panic-driven changes to their playing XI. While it’s understandable that they are experimenting with their bench players due to their poor form, making frequent and extensive changes, such as shuffling 4-5 players per match, can disrupt the team’s stability. It’s important for RCB to show trust in their established performers like Siraj and Maxwell. Making fewer changes will allow the team to settle and find their rhythm. RCB currently sits at the bottom of the points table with 6 losses and just 1 win, so they need to regroup and deliver strong performances to have a chance at making it to the playoffs.
The team’s struggles can be attributed to some poor decisions at the auction and having a relatively weak bowling attack. However, it’s crucial for RCB to make the best use of their resources and for their key players to lead by example. They need to improve their overall performance and rectify their weaknesses to turn their fortunes around.
While yesterday’s match was a forgettable one for RCB, it’s important to acknowledge that such lopsided results can occur when the strongest batting lineup faces the weakest bowling attack. It highlights the need for RCB to address their bowling deficiencies and find a better balance between their batting and bowling strengths.
