UGC NET June 2024 Exam Rescheduled
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced new dates for the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2024 June session. Initially scheduled for June 18, the exam was cancelled due to a paper leak allegation. The rescheduled exam will now take place between August 21 and September 4, 2024, and will be conducted online as a computer-based test.
Background of the Cancellation
The UGC NET June 2024 exam was initially held on June 18 in two shifts across over 317 cities, with more than 9 lakh candidates participating. However, the exam was cancelled on June 19 following allegations of a paper leak. The Ministry of Education received input from the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, indicating that the UGC-NET question paper had been leaked and matched the original question paper available on the darknet.
Official Statement
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the situation in a press conference, stating, “Soon after it was clear that the UGC-NET question paper on darknet matches the original question paper of UGC-NET, we decided to cancel the examination. We take responsibility and have to rectify the system.”
Further investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed that the paper was leaked on June 16, just two days before the scheduled exam, and was being sold on the darknet and other encrypted social media channels for more than 5 lakh rupees.
Additional Exam Dates Announced
In addition to the UGC NET June 2024 revised dates, the NTA has also announced dates for other important exams:
- Joint CSIR UGC NET: July 25-27, 2024
- NCET 2024: July 10, 2024
- AIAPGET 2024: July 6, 2024 (as scheduled earlier)
These new dates ensure that students and educators can plan accordingly for the upcoming examinations.
