In a move to help young aspirants affected by COVID-19, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given the green light for a three-year age extension for those applying to be police constables in Uttar Pradesh. This decision comes after requests from the public and local leaders.
Two lawmakers, Dhirendra Singh and Sanjay Sharma, met with the chief minister to push for this change, and the opposition party Rashtriya Lok Dal also joined the cause.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has told the Home Department to allow a three-year age extension for all candidates applying for police jobs this time,” said an official statement.
The state government announced the recruitment of 60,244 police constables on December 23. The application process starts on December 27 and lasts until January 16.
Candidates should be between 18 and 22 years old, but considering the impact of COVID-19, the chief minister agreed to relax the upper age limit by three to five years based on a request from two BJP lawmakers.
Out of the 60,244 vacancies, 24,102 are for everyone, 6,024 for economically weaker sections, 16,262 for Other Backward Classes, 12,650 for Scheduled Castes, and 1,204 for Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, 20 percent of the posts are reserved for women.
This decision not only supports the youth but also addresses the challenges posed by the pandemic. If you’re interested in applying, the application window is open until January 16.
