Indian teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered one of the most extraordinary performances in Under-19 World Cup history, smashing a breathtaking 175 off just 80 balls in the final against England at the Harare Sports Club.

At just 14 years old, Suryavanshi dominated the England bowling attack with remarkable ease, striking 15 sixes and 15 fours at a staggering strike rate of 218.75. His innings powered India to a mammoth 411 for 9 in 50 overs, the highest-ever total in an Under-19 World Cup final and the fifth-highest overall in tournament history.

Brutal Acceleration After a Steady Start

Suryavanshi began cautiously, scoring 24 runs off his first 24 deliveries. What followed was sheer destruction. He blasted 151 runs from the next 56 balls, turning the final into a one-sided spectacle. His 126-minute stay at the crease left both fans and opponents in awe.

England eventually managed to dismiss him in the 26th over when pacer Manny Lumsden deceived him with a slower delivery. Attempting an aggressive slog sweep, Suryavanshi gloved the ball to England captain and wicketkeeper Thomas Rew. As he walked back, several England players shook his hand in appreciation of a truly special innings.

Records Tumble in the Final

Suryavanshi’s knock rewrote the record books:

  • Highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final, surpassing Unmukt Chand’s 111* in 2012
  • Most sixes in a youth ODI innings (15), extending his own record
  • Most sixes in a single Under-19 World Cup innings
  • Ninth-highest score in youth ODI history
  • Sixth-highest individual score across all Under-19 World Cups
  • Second-fastest century in U19 World Cups, reaching three figures in 55 balls

His performance took his tournament tally to 439 runs in seven innings, making him the leading run-scorer of the competition.

India Posts a Record-Breaking Total

India’s final score of 411-9 eclipsed the previous highest total in a U19 World Cup final — Australia’s 253-7 against India in 2024 — underlining the dominance of Suryavanshi’s innings.

This latest feat adds to a rapidly growing list of milestones for Suryavanshi. He first caught global attention after hitting a six off the very first ball he faced in the Indian Premier League. He later became the youngest player to score a T20 century, blasting a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals — the second-fastest IPL century after Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball ton.

In youth cricket, his records have been equally staggering. In July 2025, he struck a then-fastest youth ODI century off 52 balls against England, followed months later by a 32-ball hundred in the Asia Cup Rising Stars T20.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s astonishing innings in the Under-19 World Cup final was not just a match-defining knock but a statement to the cricketing world. With records tumbling and milestones arriving at an unprecedented pace, the teenage prodigy has firmly established himself as one of the brightest young stars the game has ever seen.
