The official trailer for Tushar Hiranandani’s biopic Srikanth, which was released on Tuesday by production company T-Series Films, features Rajkummar Rao’s visually challenged character Srikanth Bolla, who goes on to break preconceptions by establishing a career as a entrepreneur.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s statement has been used in the beginning of the three-minute, 17-second clip, “Dream is not that you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep.” It depicts schoolchildren sharing their goals with Kalam, the Indian president at the time. One of the students wants to be an IAS officer, and another wants to be an astronaut. Declaring outright that he wants to be the first president of India to be sight-challenged, Srikanth demonstrates his resolve to take on obstacles head-on rather than run from them.

Throughout his academic career, Srikanth has demonstrated excellence, achieving an astounding 98% on his board exams. Srikanth’s teacher, played by Jyotika, stands with him during the most difficult moments. Notwithstanding his accomplishments, Srikanth is constrained by the Indian educational system, which forbids visually handicapped pupils from pursuing scientific programs. Srikanth sues the system because he is determined to achieve his ambition.

In the end, prestigious US universities extend scholarship offers to Srikanth. In the movie, Alaya F plays Srikanth’s romantic interest and admirer. She tells him, “I know all about your court case, cricket, and MIT,” as they walk hand in hand through a park.

On his journey to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Srikanth faces several challenges, but he overcomes them all with his gritty tenacity. He decides to establish employment possibilities for visually handicapped individuals like himself after returning to India. This led him to establish Bollant Industries, a business that employs hundreds of people with disabilities and makes goods based on areca.

The first visionary to back Srikanth’s business endeavor was Dr. Kalam. In the teaser, Sharad Kelkar plays an industrialist who later becomes friends with Srikanth. When the trailer comes to a close, Srikanth breaks all preconceived notions about people with visual impairments with a stirring statement.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Srikanth will arrive in cinemas on May 10 on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
