Jai Mata di! It is Navratri day 5 on 13 April 2024 and Maa Skandmata is worshipped on this day as the fifth incarnation ( swarup) of Maa Durga.

‘Skand’ means ‘Kartikay’, which is why Maa Skandmata is known by this name. She is the mother of Kartikay who sits in her lap. She is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom and patience.

As per Kumarasambhava, epic poem by Kalidas, the Gods prayed for Skanda’s birth for destroying the demons Taraka, Surapadma and Simhamukha. That is when Skanda was born with God Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Maa Skandmata has a pure white complexion. She is the only form of Maa Durga who has the power to bless the devotees with the blessings of God of war, Kartikay.
